Second edition call of Cantieri in Movimento – Industrial Heritage Soundscapes is addressed to young Sicilian artists (under 35): musicians, composers, video makers, performers, dancers, actors and playwrights.
The project will start with a free workshop, aiming at artists’ education (literacy), preliminary to application for next residencies.
The selected artists will have the opportunity to attend an on-line course, led by Italian tutors of the partnership, aiming to explore the themes of self-promotion and site-specific planning.
When the workshop is over, it will be possible to apply for the artistic residencies of Cantieri in Movimento – Industrial Heritage Soundscapes 2nd edition – BOARDING PASS +

Are you an artist, but you don’t know how to promote yourself in Italy and abroad?
Join the free educational workshop “Cantieri in movimento”.
The call for the workshop Cantieri in Movimento-Industrial Heritage Soundscapes, preliminary to the application to the project site-specific residencies, is open.
The programme includes a first educational phase (literacy), addressed to Sicilian artists: musicians, composers, video makers, performers, dancers, actors and playwrights.
The selected artists will have the opportunity to attend an on-line course, led by partnership Italian tutors, about self-promotion, planning and artworks presentation to third parties.
When the workshop is over, it will be possible to apply for the artistic residencies of Cantieri in movimento-Industrial Heritage Soundscapes, during which 7 groups of artists from Italy, Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine, will work together at 7 site-specific performances in industrial archaeological sites.
The residencies artistic direction is curated by Teho Teardo.

The group of partecipants of Cantieri in Movimento – Industrial Heritage Soundscape is full. The artistic director, Teho Teardo, will lead us until the final return. You’ll see in September 2022!

Fairooz Tamimi / Biography
Specialist on diversity and inclusion topics, with a long experience in Middle East and northern Europe. She works with Trans Europe Halles, focusing on social and environmental sustainability. She collaborated with the Swedish Government and the Nordic Council as a strategic and implementing consultant for the cultural sector diversification.
Co-Creator of the Art Lab for Human Rights and Dialogue with UNESCO. Winner of Göran Tunhammar’s Award by Herbert Felix Institute for “Openness and Diversity”.
With contributions from Professor Marina Castiglione, Pamela Toscano, organiser at Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee and project manager of Cantieri in Movimento, Sergio Zinna, artistic director of Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee and Claudia Cantale, Researcher in SOCIOLOGY OF CULTURAL AND COMMUNICATIVE PROCESSES, formerly creator of enhancement paths for Officine Culturali.
Marina Castiglione / Biography
Full Professor of Italian Linguistics and coordinator of PhDs in Humanities. She has published works for the Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia, specifically ethno-linguistic and socio-variational contents. Director of the DASES project (Dizionario Atlante dei soprannomi etnici in Sicilia), she has about 150 active publications, including works on literary multilingualism and on sector-specific vocabulary. She especially conducted a research study on culture and language spoken by sulphur and gypsum miners in the area of Caltanissetta and Agrigento, gathering the last oral testimonies about this long-forgotten business.
After a year of work under the artistic direction of Teho Teardo, 7 Sicilian artists and 8 artists from Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine have come together to enhance the value of 5 sites of industrial archaeology, now cultural centres, through contemporary languages of performing arts:
– Zo Centro Culture Contemporanee (former sulphur refinery in Catania, project lead partner)
– Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa (former industrial area in Palermo, represented by the association Curva Minore)
– Zentralwerk (former printing press, then weapons factory in Dresden, Germany)
– Truc Spherique (former train station of Zilina, Slovakia)
– Izolyatsia (former salt mine of Soledar, Ukraine)
– in partnership with Darshan to provide traditional music insights.
The performances will take place at Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee, on September 29th and 30th, from 7 p.m.
